HISTORY
The largest population group in the world with hereditary Alzheimer's is identified.
The donation of the first patient´s brain from the families is received and this gave rise to the Neurobanco [Neurobank].

Thanks to the donation of a brain, it is proven that it was Alzheimer's disease.

The genetic cause of the disease is identified, the ‘paisa’ mutation.
Through monitoring the population for 15 years, the preclinical stages of Alzheimer's disease were defined: asymptomatic stages.

This finding is published in the magazine LANCET.
It is discovered that amyloidosis begins at 28 years old.
It is defined that Cognitive decline starts at 32 and taupathy at 38 years old.
Preventive clinical studies began.
ABOUT US
We are a basic and clinical research group of the University of Antioquia
recognized both nationally and internationally for our trajectory in the research of neurodegenerative diseases and neurodevelopmental disorders.
We study the structure, function and alterations of the nervous system
by monitoring affected populations.
We participate in the training of students and researchers,
and provide assistance services that help prevent, treat and rehabilitate the diseases we research about and implement social programs that contribute to improving the quality of life of our patients and their families.
In the year 2020, the GNA will be an international reference in the execution of research projects in
biomarkers, clinical studies, preventive healing therapies and cognitive rehabilitation for neurodegenerative diseases as well as any other disorders related to social neurosciences and neurodevelopment.
We will also seek to be a group recognized for the training of students,
researchers and caregivers socially committed to prevention, rehabilitation and the solution of neurocognition disorders and behavior that affects the health of the population.
